Frequency, Therapeutic Sound & Vibrational Healing

In the context of sound medicine, frequency is the number of times a wave passes a certain point per moment. (measured in hertz (Hz)). Every living being and energy has a unique vibrational frequency, which can change during illness or trauma.

Different frequencies resonate with various body parts and facilitate entrainment, wherein two frequencies interact and eventually synchronize. The higher frequency elevates the lower one, activating the body's internal healing mechanism.

This concept is a foundation of the science of sound and vibrational medicine.

Solfeggio Frequencies are particular tones believed to influence the conscious and subconscious mind, creating an environment for healing. These frequencies originated in ancient cultures and spiritual practices, and research has linked them to patterns in geometry and numerology. Each has a unique effect on the mind and body and is used therapeutically for healing work.

396Hz Red Frequency of Liberation from Fear & Guilt - release negative emotions

417Hz Orange Frequency of Facilitating Change - breaks up stagnant energy

528Hz Yellow Frequency of Transformation - Miracle Tone, restore DNA

639Hz Green Frequency of Connecting & Relationships - connection, forgiveness

741Hz Blue, Cyan Frequency of Awakening Intuition - clearing noise, expands intuition

852Hz Indigo Frequency of Returning to Spiritual Order - spiritual balance, connecting to inner-self

963Hz Purple Frequency of Divine Consciousness - spiritual awareness, oneness with the cosmos

Sound has existed in healing work for tens of thousands of years. Though it is a newer practice in the West, ancient cultures, some religions, and Eastern spiritual traditions have consistently used sound and vibration as medicine for emotional and physical healing. Sound Medicine started gaining momentum and a research base in the West a little over 60 years ago, focusing on frequencies specifically correlated to certain body parts and the health conditions they were believed to treat.
This research identified over 600 frequencies, focusing on how certain instruments and tones (chimes, tuning forks, gongs, singing bowls, drums, binaural beats) affect
the body and mind.

Sound medicine can be used alone or with other energy modalities to promote healing. I utilize tuning forks, various singing bowls (crystal, Tibetan, Himalayan, and therapeutic Zen bowls), a medicine drum, Koshi chimes, Solfeggio frequencies, quantum healing frequencies, and binaural beats through sound bath immersions and using sound and frequency at various points in an integrative energy healing session to empower the process.

Sound Healing

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion when two tones are played simultaneously, one in each ear, using sound-canceling headphones. The brain perceives a third tone, or ghost frequency, in the difference between the two tones. Different binaural beats influence the brainwave states in unique ways, including relaxation, focus, and deep sleep.

To produce a binaural beat, the two tones sounded in the ears must both have frequencies below 1,500 Hz and a difference of no greater than 40 Hz. The effects of the binaural beat will depend on its frequency and the corresponding brain wave (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Theta, Delta). The two tones are slightly different, which confuses the brain into hearing them as one tone. This forces the brain to engage, so it becomes attuned to the ghost frequency. This process can take minutes or up to an hour, profoundly affecting the brain's functioning, creating a frequency that completely changes the brainwave state to what is commonly experienced during meditation. I incorporate binaural beats into healing sessions as a need arises.

Binaural Beats

Binaural Beat Frequencies/Brain Waves and Benefits:

  • Beta Waves (13–16 Hz): Awake/alert state - improves memory, problem-solving, concentration, mental fatigue

  • Alpha Waves (8–14 Hz): Relaxed state with eyes closed - relaxation, meditation

  • Gamma Waves (40 Hz): Alert state - improves focus and cognitive function

  • Theta Waves (4–8 Hz): Stage between asleep and awake - light sleep - helps with migraines

  • Delta Waves (0.5-4 Hz): State of deep sleep

Vibrations are energy fluctuations around a specific point; since everything is made of energy, we all vibrate. Vibrational healing harnesses these vibrations for therapeutic benefits.

This method often involves placing singing bowls on the body, producing tones that help realign energy and promote relaxation, effectively massaging the nervous system. The vibrational waves physically and energetically engage clients, allowing these energies to flow throughout the body.

While vibrational healing commonly includes sound, it can also involve techniques that don't use sound. The main focus is to release energy blockages, heal the nervous system, and enhance overall well-being.

In my practice, I primarily use Therapeutic Zen Bowls and weighted tuning forks with crystal points for vibrational healing.
